Spenge, Germany.
According to the manufacturer, the approval Z-17.1-603 for MODERSOHN lintel reinforcement establishes a new benchmark. With the “MOSO® Perforated Strip E650 – Reinforcement from the Roll,” a new generation of load-bearing masonry reinforcement for lintel support applications is now available.
The MOSO® Perforated Strip is one of the flagship products of Wilhelm Modersohn GmbH & Co. KG (part of Leviat). This perforated metal strip was developed by the Stainless steel specialist from Spenge in the 1980s as Masonry reinforcement for self-supporting lintels over window and door openings and received its first building authority approval from the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt) in August 1997.
The new E650 Perforated Strip replaces the previously used E420 Perforated Strip and, thanks to its higher strength, provides a more powerful solution for the design and construction of masonry structures.
Applications and Areas of Use
In recent years, the primary focus has been on using the flat strip reinforcement, manufactured from high-strength galvanized steel or Stainless steel (Lean Duplex steel D4), as crack control reinforcement against settlement, shrinkage, and stress cracks, as well as for point-load and lateral-load stabilization in brick veneer masonry.
With the approval Z-17.1-603, the MOSO® Perforated Strip is now being returned to its original purpose as reinforcement for brick veneer masonry lintels.
"With the new E650 Perforated Strip, we offer our customers a future-oriented solution that combines superior performance with straightforward structural design application," Vitalij Pfeifer, the new managing director at Modersohn, explains. "At the same time, the new approval provides the necessary level of safety for both design and installation."
Key Innovations
The new approval also incorporates the latest normative requirements for modern masonry construction.
The most significant changes are the increase in material thickness from 0.5 mm to 0.6 mm and the increase in yield strength from 420 MPa to 650 MPa.
By combining the MOSO® E650 Perforated Strip with the Modersohn Bracket Anchor (MK6), clear spans of more than 2.51 metres can now be achieved.
To support structural design, a dedicated calculation tool has also been developed specifically for the new perforated strip. This software enables engineers and designers to perform the required structural verifications quickly and efficiently.
