Detailview for term

Corrosion-proof

Inaccurate term often used in regulations, technical literature, product descriptions and construction tenders to describe an expectation regarding corrosion behaviour. It is used either to express existing, long-term empirical values with certain corrosion systems or as an expression for a desired property which is to be achieved by suitable measures.

Explanation: In order to obtain a verifiable and meaningful design description, this term must be explained in more detail.
If the term corrosion resistant is used without further details in direct connection with the term component, product, steel or material etc., the component must be assumed to be made of a corrosion resistant material, e.g. stainless steel.
Otherwise, the description must be supplemented by a suitable protective measure, such as a protective component, coating or covering.
