Project discription

As part of the refurbishment of the old building of the Berlin State Library, the fire service walkways were newly built. For this purpose, we supplied more than 50 support profiles equipped with bracket plates, which were embedded in the outer walls by means of core drilling. The corridors themselves were realised in lightweight precast concrete elements. The corresponding installation parts made of Lean Duplex steel were delivered directly to the precast plant. For the Support brackets, we developed an alternative construction which should allow a considerable cost saving, not least by using the material 1.4362 (Lean Duplex).

After presentation of the alternative and discussions with the responsible site manager, a release for the cheaper alternative could be given quickly.

The immediate provision of a building authority approval, a Corrosion protection report from the Federal Office for Materials Research and Testing, etc. left no doubt as to the suitability of the material.
By using a composite profile that could be manufactured in the workshop, the delivery time was also significantly reduced, as raw materials are kept in stock. The customer also appreciated the possibility of having individual parts that had not been (or could not be) recorded in the planning stage delivered quickly and without bureaucracy.

Background information

New Stainless steel as a cost-effective alternative for renovation work on the Berlin State Library.
The heart of the Berlin State Library is the building "Unter den Linden", which was built according to the plans of court architect Ernst von Ihne and opened in 1914.

The building was renovated and new buildings were added according to the plans of the architect HG Merz. In the course of the renovation measures, numerous Stainless steel parts from our production were also used.

Material

For the construction we only used components made of Lean Duplex Stainless steel.
