Project description

SANITATION OF THE „RATHAUSMANN“ in Dresden

On the occasion of Dresden's 800th anniversary celebration, the town hall man presented himself in new splendour on the town hall tower. Not only the outer shell was restored, but also the substructure was rebuilt. Stainless steel, shaped by Modersohn with millimetre precision, now ensures lasting stability.

Special challenges

In close coordination with the general contractor, Modersohn supplied the necessary components for the interior construction.
The special difficulty of this welded construction:
the irregular, three-dimensional construction, precisely manufactured by using templates and scaffolding.

Material

The overall contract for the restoration and re-erection of the tower sculpture included the following works:

  •     Removing the copper skin from the steel framework
  •     Removing rust from the steel framework and replinge heavily corroded parts with stainless steel, treat remaining parts of the steel framework with corrosion protection
  •     Removing old coating of the copper skin
  •     Closing holes and cracks in the copper skin
  •     Preserving the inside of the copper skin
  •     Mounting copper skin and gild it with natural gold (24 carat)
