Kornmarkt-Arcades, Frankfurt am Main

The Kornmarkt arcades are one of the most controversial construction projects in Frankfurt in recent years. The building ensemble was created on the site of the former Federal Audit Office.
The 5,000m² site has found a new use as a business centre and is divided into the areas Kornmarkt Kontore, Kornmarkt Domizil and Kornmarkt Quartier, with multifunctional use.

The construction project began at the end of 2014, after the demolition of the Federal Audit Office's annex, which is not listed as a historical monument, and was completed at the end of 2018 after a four-year construction period, while retaining the characteristic elements of the former buildings, which date back to the time of the young Federal Republic and were designed by the architects Werner Dierschke and Friedel Steinmeyer. For example, the eastern wing of the building had to be extensively renovated and the characteristic façade and staircase had to be retained, as did a mural in the former entrance area. In the subsequent construction phase, the Frankfurt office of KSP Jürgen Engel, which won first prize with its design, also had to comply with all the requirements of monument protection.
