Project description

St. Peter's Cathedral in Schleswig is one of Schleswig-Holstein's most important architectural monuments and serves as the preaching church for the bishop of the Schleswig and Holstein diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany.
Built between 1888 and 1894, the main or west tower is 112 metres high, making it the third tallest church tower in Schleswig-Holstein.
Due to its poor condition, it was secured with reinforced concrete structures between 1953 and 1956, and the façade was re-clad with bricks. However, these cracked over time due to the use of different materials with varying expansion properties.
As a result, the 120-year-old cathedral tower was once again in urgent need of renovation at the beginning of the 21st century due to moisture in the masonry.

The total construction costs amounted to €17.3 million, of which the federal government contributed around €8.6 million.
The work took place from November 2017 to early 2022 and focused in particular on the west gable and the west tower.

In 2020, Modersohn supplied custom-made angle bracket anchors and paddle anchors as well as MOSO® perforated tape for this construction project.
