We have an extensive range of machinery for surface and edge processing. The highlight is our grind deburring equipment with 8 grinding units, with which we can produce the optically ideal ground surface on both sides and deburr holes and edges cleanly in all directions in one go.

Even minuscule holes and slots are then perfectly free of burrs, without excessive rounding or clogging of the fine openings.

Whether large areas or small corners, we have for each situation the correct grinding equipment. Or do you need grinding work on finished component bodies?

We grind in grain sizes of 36 - 320. For even finer surfaces we use grinding wool.

1. Which grinding processes do we employ?

a. Dry grinding with a wide belt sander incl. deburring

b. Body grinding machinery for post grinding on a three-dimensional workpiece

2. With which abrasive grain sizes do we work by default?

There are special grinding belts for stainless steel with:

  • a 36
  • a 80
  • a 120
  • a 180
  • a 24
  • a 320

grain size.

We use grinding wool instead of a brush to smooth the grinding tips. We distinguish the types

  • MF (medium)
  • FF (fine)

For example, the MF grinding wool can after the grinding process with grain size 180. This produces a special surface smoothness and creates a special reflection depending on the light.

This combination possibility of working with a grinding belt and wool produces numerous surface variants. We are happy to advise you. Ask for a small sample.

Basically, the finer a surface is polished, the more resistant it is against deposits of foreign particles (rust) and corrosion.

3. Why grind and deburr M-CUSTOM?

We have also invested in automatic grinding and portal body grinding systems to complement the existing manufacturing equipment for surface machining. We have two grinding plants, which work the sheets in the dry grinding method with wide rolls and plates. The result is a uniform micrograph with a slight rounding of the edges, for example, for lasered or plasma burnt sheet metal parts.

4. What are the advantages of body grinding with M-CUSTOM?

a. Post treatment of the welding seams and mechanically scratched surfaces of housing, crates, containers, tubs, racks and many other welded structures is fast and uniform  even when the surface is slightly wavy and angular. This is due to the relatively small grinding head, which is very exactly offset and evenly pressed by the automatic guidance so that grinding joins normally remain invisible. This work would not be possible manually on a larger area without shading, pressure points and offset edges as a result.

b. The adhesive protective films on the sheets present a big problem when using ground sheets for housing or tank constructions. The sheets are usually coated with a film directly after the grinding process. In other words, after having the passive layer removed by the grinding process, the sheets are immediately hermetically sealed with foil. It is especially bad when adhesive residue gets stuck in the grinding marks after removal of the film. This happens especially when the sheets have already been stored (at worst in sunlight) over several months. The adhesive hardens and cannot be removed with the film. Housing and containers made of untreated sheets can be subsequently processed evenly with the body grinding plants.

c. Due to the small grinding head which adapts to the surface tolerances (hollows, elevations), grinding, even of hot-rolled or cogged large plates up to 110 mm thickness, is possible: ideal for heavy components and sheets. Wide belt grinding systems are not suitable for this work.

d. Grinding of large containers and housings is no problem for us. With a grinding width of 2800mm and a maximum height of 1700mm almost most workpiece sizes are workable.

e. The body grinders allow the automatic use of different abrasive belts during a working step - therefore a perfect surface and very fine grinding patterns without offset can be quickly achieved.

5. What must be taken notice of during deburring?

There are a wide variety of customer requirements for deburring. The spectrum ranges from the slight blunting of edges up to to strong rounding. A sample is recommended for larger quantities. Our principle is the production of a clean but light deburring in order not to produce too much rounding on the edges. It is important that no burr remains, or is bent into the contour. No scratching on the other surfaces should occur during deburring. Our systems can cleanly deburr very small sections of lasered and also foiled sheets.

6. Other M-CUSTOM methods for deburring

The "rumbling": in this case, the parts are placed in a large rotating drum for cleaning and deburring. This method is suitable only for small parts. The "stainless steel grit blasting" deburrs the edges of sheet metal parts and welded structures, see item "abrasive blasting" on this website. If necessary, we recommend a sample.
