We offer our customers an even more comprehensive service: With the help of a mobile tester, an essential part of the stainless steel can be determined. Within a short time the question of the quality of the material is clarified.
In industry and trade, growing interest in reliable information on the quality of material prevails. Lifes can depend on correct material grades: Just imagine what, for example, could happen if an incorrect material is used in façade fixing.
A new technology from the United States, which was developed for NASA (using the Mars robot!) and works with x-rays, provides reliable information. The "Niton" device recognizes chemical elements in metal alloys (in the element area Titanium Uranium) quickly and precisely and the information is at your fingertips.
Sheets, wires, pipes, tubes and welded constructions, incl. the welds, can be tested. Standard elements for the test are: SI, P, S, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Zr, Nb, Mo, Hf, Ta, W, Re, Pb, Bi, Pd, Ag, Sn.
If necessary, we can investigate further existing elements such as Al, Cl, P, S, Si and Mg for you.
The acquisition of such a device is expensive. We have procured it for quality assurance in the incoming goods inspection. For example, to clearly identify the new lean duplex steel. Then we had the idea to offer the tester for renting as a "mobile task force". The temporary rental of our equipment and the operator is an inexpensive alternative, especially if the permanent acquisition is not economically viable.
Numerous companies throughout East Westphalia make use of the possibility of simple alloy analysis / verification inspection, which can be ordered by phone or e-mail. Please ask!
Accurate and rapid determination of the surface roughness in microns!
The rapid and selective determination of the surface roughness plays an important role particularly in the medical or food industries due to hygiene regulations. It is becoming more and more evident and important that the definition of corrosion resistance properties is dependent on the surface quality and determination of the surface roughness. Of course, the roughness measurement is only one part of the total consideration area of surface quality. The type of marks and possible overlaps are not recognized by the roughness tester and have to be determined for the overall assessment. As research has shown, microscopic and cross-sectional analysis are also very important. Nevertheless, a first indication of the state of the surface is provided.
A coarse and poorly grinded surface, for example, material 1.4404, can result in poorer corrosion resistance properties than a smooth and well ground, or electropolished surface material such as 1.4301!
Therefore, the choice of surface is, in addition to the material selection, is the most important selection criteria to ensure proper corrosion resistance properties. The desired surface quality should be controlled and confirmed in the form of surface roughness test!
The surface is accurately tested within a measuring range of up to 12.5 mm. Various average roughness values can be calculated: arithmetic mean roughness Ra, root mean square roughness Rq, average roughness depth Rz, and more.
Hardness and strength test
With simple testing devices it is now possible to determine, quickly and accurately, the hardness of a material using various methods. But that alone is, in many cases, not adequate since hardness does not necessarily have anything to do with the strength of a material.
The hardness measurement takes only the resistance to pressure, during penetration with a harder test specimen, into account. The toughness and the mechanical resistance opposing plastic deformation or separation remains unconsidered. Important strength values are determined by means of tensile and impact tests.
In addition to strength, material stiffness should be determined since it plays a role in design and elasticity of profiles. It is interesting to know that the stiffness of stainless steel decreases with an increase in strain hardening. For those looking for a stainless steel with high strength and stiffness, it must always be ensured that a high basic strength in the annealed condition is present.
